How I Work

At Helping Hands & Hearts, the way I work is just as important as the care I provide. My approach is calm, intentional, and centred around emotional safety ensuring children feel secure and families feel confident and supported.

Child-Centred and Relationship-Focused

I believe that children thrive when they feel understood, respected, and emotionally safe. I take the time to build trusting relationships with each child, moving at their pace and responding to their individual needs.

Care is never rushed or rigid. Instead, I focus on connection first, knowing that strong relationships are the foundation for positive experiences and wellbeing.

Understanding Behaviour

Behaviour is communication. Rather than focusing on control or punishment, I work to understand what a child is trying to express.

By responding with patience and empathy, I support children to regulate their emotions, feel heard, and develop confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

Consistency, Routines, and Flexibility

I understand how important routines are for children, particularly those who need predictability to feel safe.

I work closely with families to follow established routines while remaining flexible when adjustments are needed. This balance helps children feel settled while supporting the realities of family life.

Working in Partnership with Families

Care works best when it’s a partnership. I value open, respectful communication and work collaboratively with families to ensure care aligns with their values, expectations, and goals.

Parents are kept informed, listened to, and supported — because caring for a child also means supporting the people around them.

A Calm and Respectful Presence

Above all, I aim to be a calm, steady presence in a child’s world. Children pick up on energy, and I intentionally create an environment that feels safe, predictable, and nurturing.

This approach allows children to feel secure, supported, and free to be themselves.
